Insurgency rising - part 11

Hello guys,

I got yet another three insurgents to show, which means there are only 9 left (yay!).
I am trying to push my soldiers forward with sculpting, but I'm very busy lately and I rarely find time for hobby. Still, every little done is a step forward so that's something, too.

There is not much to say about today's trio. We got three riflemen, one with a bit more modern webbing and other two with a "bad guys" chest ring. Fat man is painted horribly and I have to admit I've started wondering if khaki/sand colour is a right choice for ALL my webbing. Still - at least they provide contrast. The problem with painting people in camouflage is how it all ends up looking the same.

Lastly, a photo of them all below:

As I've said, there really isn't much to add. If I could paint them faster I'd post more than just three at a time as I can't ditch the feeling that I keep posting one same post :D

Still, thanks for looking,

Mathyoo

  1. The Force may seem to be growing slowly, then we see it altogether and suddenly it looks quite formidable. Good Job Mathyoo. Great to see it all coming together.

    1. Thanks! I keep looking for chances to add a sniper or a GPMG to their arsenal, too :P.

Or at least some vehicles, I'd like to make a technical with BMP turret I saw in photos from Syria :D

  2. Fat guy and his mate to the left of the photograph look to be in fairly natural poses whilst the chap on the right seems to be trying too hard to be heroic.
Surely you have to be please with the paintjobs - I certainly would be. As for webbing there is always olive drab and at a stretch black for a bit of variation and maybe a winter camo too ?

    1. Ah well, the right one is leaping forward - someone has to spearhead! :D

I was planning on making them olive drab (as in all of them) and I got no idea where I went wrong, lol. I kinda like this sandy colour as it really pops out.

  3. Great work Mathyoo. Nothing wrong with these paintjobs. Fat guys jeans look really good. Watching the news and seeing the insurgents in Ukraine, black seemed to be the predominant colour. Maybe using different camo's such as desert or winter would feel like you are painting something different while sticking with the same theme. Sports brands would also add a little variation, football club colours also.
Webbing would look good in navy blue or grey.
Nothing wrong with three at a time painting, slow and steady wins the race.

    1. Thanks for the compliment Bob! I thought about black, but I figured that's just too boring - I could use some sports brands and similar though. But to be honest, there's not many place I could put them to as they all wear webbing and got their bellies covered.

Winter camo is just a white smock or white and some gray spots, but desert isn't a bad idea. I'm just working on some and I've decided desert is too much work - so I picked red urban camo. It will be great for variation if I'll manage to pull it off :)

    1. Thanks!

There is not much heavy weaponry in this group (just some RPGs and RPKs), but just you wait until I paint their tank :D

  5. There is some good advice from Bob, Mathyoo. I like them all, but I'm particularly impressed with the way you painted fat guy's jeans.

  7. There's enough variation in the equipment and clothing to mark this out as a paramilitary or irregular force. I'd say that the postures also give that signal, with some of the men showing signs of military training and others have perhaps got all they know from Hollywood!

    1. Hey - welcome to the blog!

Thanks for the compliment, but I am not sure I understand what you want to say about a .50 cal and AGL. They only have .50 cal mounted for now as "our" humvees don't use AGLs :P.
