Hello guys,
another short post today. I am still going strong with moderns and I finished insurgents machine gun team. It's supposedly representing a Zastava M84 machine gun (or soviet PK if you prefer). I converted it from BAR gun, so it's not the best, but it looks suitably generic. Gunner is from Warlord games US Marines sprue, while assistant gunner is from the same company, German Infantry sprue. There is little need for prone figures, but they do work well for machine gunners, I'd say. It is a perfect counterpart to Slovene MAG team I painted a while ago.
It can't be seen clearly on my bad photos, but the assistant gunner carries an AK with folding stock. Here known as M70AB2 (and produced by Zastava), it used to be a standard issue rifle in Slovenian army prior to introduction of FN F2000S. As far as wargaming goes, I just wanted to model a folded stock for a change.
They both use same camouflage pattern jackets, but the gunner also has Chinese "cloud" pattern pants. They came out horribly wrong and it looks like he is either a weekend clown or still in his pyjamas!
Thanks for looking,
Mathyoo
I'd add some black spots or stripes to the "clown" pattern pants. Apart from that, they look great.
ReplyDeleteThat's a valid suggestion, I think the problem is the shape of blobs as they should perhaps be more stripey as opposed to round.
DeleteInteresting use of various figures
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean! Germans will be used for a WWW II skirmish game if I ever come to playing those and the marines were used as a local, Evergreen Army unit. They featured in most of my reports so far.
DeleteThe jackets are very good, but I agree that you need to do something extra for the gunner's trousers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Colgar! I think I might crack and repaint them all together. I was hoping for something as cool as the red camouflage on some of the insurgents, but it clearly didn't came out as planned :D
DeleteHay your choice entirely but the gunned trousers look a bit bright and gaudy. Not wishing to sound rude but they do seem very bright for camouflage. Other than that very minor quibble I really like this pair they seem very suitable for some Modern wargames.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing rude about a "negative" opinion (if we can call that negative!). I agree completely and I am still not entirely sure what environment would a camouflage like this be suitable for, it looks horrible even as a parade uniform.
DeleteIt is, however, not something I made up myself. Here:

Look very good- I like prone MG teams on the table top- good visual reference that the MG is set up. I don't think the trousers are that bad- I'd just add a tan drybrush to muddy them up.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Pete.
I would love to have a team with disassembled MG on the move, one carrying a tripod and other one a machine gun...maybe as a future project some day!
DeleteA muddy drybrush might help break the brightness, cheers!
I hate to be picky but your gut is right on the pants. Props for trying some thing different but he will stick out like a set of dogs balls. :P
ReplyDeleteThat aside, great use of the plastics and conversion work.
I think I might be looking at the african rebels too much for the inspiration and mine come out all wrong :D
DeleteGood looking team and great choice of colours ('cept for those pants !), I'd use the colours oyu have on them on add to make them a snow-like camo (there are many close to your choice).
ReplyDeleteOh, winter camo, that's one I never thought about.
DeleteThanks!
Nice job Mathyoo, except the blue pants. They do stand out some what! The opposite of camoflauge.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob :D
DeleteNice looking mg team
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThey look good mate. Perhaps a blue inkwash might tone down the camo pants slightly.
ReplyDeleteCheers mate, I'll think about it, I am pretty convinced I should repaint them. Perhaps find another camo all together.
DeleteNice looking troops, great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil!
