Zombies...gaah...

 Hello guys,

I was hoping I would post earlier, but I really didn't want to put in another filler post, so I have decided I would rather wait until I finish painting the four zombies (that took me way too long to paint).

What I am doing now is painting a couple of WGF Vixens and a couple of SM male zombies (thanks again Bryan :P) - so 4 zombies at a time. This will give me nice variety of male and female zombies and I will actually have something painted. Or at least that is the plan.

I went for red here, which is the worst colour you can paint your zombies in. No blood is visible! Then again, I picked red because of the bay watch zombie (that sucks).

Not much to say, they are painted horribly, but I am happy I managed to finish them at least. They seem too red when they are together, but once they will be mixed with the rest of the "horde", that shouldn't be as visible. I went for missing arm on the Pamela there, as I would hate it even more if she'd be in a super man pose. The miniatures aren't too bad, honestly, very nicely sculpted. What I don't like is the shallow detail and limited options, so I have to admit the old WGF set is still my favorite. The sculpts are way worse there, but I somehow prefer them to any other plastic zombies I've seen so far. I might want to mention I like how WGF is listening to the comments, first they made females everyone wanted and when doing survivors, they've put a fat one in (is that offensive?). I don't like to have all models in my zombie horde.
One thing I didn't do was convert any, I'm pretty sure I've hit rock bottom on my hobby enthusiasm and I am pretty sure I will buy some cheap 6-10mm miniatures to get me back in, give me sometihng I haven't yet tried to try. I really can't decide on the period, so please do suggest some. I am currently inter debating between late romans (remember roman wall and that battle I was talking about?), WW1 (always wanted to do something about WW1 :D), cold war gone hot (pre-abrams, way more interesting. T-72 was a great tank once in the past!), sci-fi. I don't really expect to game with it, but I would like to do something. Something is fun :D. Now I just can't decide if massive red tide would look better than ranks of sword swinging hordes. I can't even decide between 6 and 10, tbh. But I would like to have a huge miniature town one day. For some reason.

Well, thanks for looking,
Mathyoo

  1. They look good. Red or not another 4 for the horde is all that matters!

    1. Thanks! I am not too happy with the faces, but to be honest, I'd fix them if it would REALLY be bothering me :P

  2. They don't look too bad, Mathyoo, and as Simon said, it gets you four more zombies for your horde. Now all you need is another 750 and you'll have as big a horde as mine! LoL!

    1. I am not sure I would want to break over 100, you know how it goes...at first everyone has a name and when you get 100, there's no problem getting another 100, and another, and another... :D

  3. That is a lot of red, isn't it :-) ?

I'm not sure that buying *more* miniatures will rekindle much enthusiasm. My experience is that there is certainly a brief excitement as the new parcel is opened, followed by even greater despondency as you realise how much more work is involved :-( . I get a better sense of satisfaction from simply completing some of the models I already have (not that I follow my own advice very well...).

    1. I know the feeling. When I bought my third FOW army I was thrilled to get the package (always nice to get packages), but once I opened it, I died a bit inside. Same happened when I came from England last year. My idea is, this would be something completely new, so it should be all fresh. Maybe I should build some terrain first...got lots of miniatures to pain either way :P

  4. I totally Agree with Colgar. There is no point buying figures for buying figures sake. We all go through low parts where we don't want to paint and our enthusiasm wanes. In Time it passes, or at least it always has for me.
I like these zombies and don't mind the red clothing at all.

    1. It's not for buying them, it's working on them :P. Now that I am thinking of it, I still got lots of terrain to make for SA. Ah!

  5. I think that they have a certain appeal. A 1970's TV zombie thing going on there. Very cool!

    1. Thanks! It's those vixens, they got "oldies" written all over them :D

  6. I'm with you on the enthusiasm front, but can't really give you any sage advice. I believe the problem is the choices currently available to wargamers, with every imaginable period covered in most every scale. You really have to have a sit back and think what period/game you want to play.

Figures are usable enough, but with red clothing you could use a brownish red to represent dried blood and have dripping blood on the figure's base.- on the plus side it's four more for the hoorde.

    1. Hah, there's honestly too many to choose from, but still nothing of exactly what I'd want :P

  7. More for the horde!!!
After recently painting some nice metal zeds, I look back at some of my rushed plastics and realise that some look awful individually. But that's the best thing about zombies (especially when you have a large number of cheap plastics), no matter how rushed the paintjob is, or how slightly dissatisfied you are with a few, you can always cover up the mistakes with some more blood and hide them amongst the rest of the horde!
    Keep em commin Mathyoo!

    1. Oh hey mate, I'm glad you are still alive :D

Metal zombies are much better, there is no doubt, but apart from what you've mentioned, plastic is really easily converted, too.

I am actually painting another batch of 4 right as we speak, hope to get it finished sooner than in a week as it shouldn't take me more than 3 days or so :D

Just finally got my painting mojo back, now to work on my blogging mojo!

  8. Your zombies look okay. In a hoard they blend in anyway and each individual isn't as important as the hoard as a whole. As everyone else has said, 4 more...

As to the malaise... Something I've been working on in myself is my tendency towards perfectionism. I tend to START projects really well and then peter out, usually because I get discouraged that things aren't progressing the way I imagined them. What I've been doing instead is to work to a standard that is "good enough." Meaning that I keep reminding myself that this is a hobby and that if I enjoy it and if I approve and if it is "good enough" then it is actually very good. If I don't work on something for a while - maybe a long while - I stop beating myself up over it and enjoy what I AM doing. I've also come to the conclusion that I will NEVER be able to finish all the projects I dream up. Strangely this realization has helped me to focus on a few projects and accept that some stuff just won't get finished. Of course I'm not perfect at any of this and I still suffer from the same hobby malaise occasionally but even then I'm starting to realize that this isn't the end of the world and it too shall pass. Anyway, I hope some of this is helpful for you. If not, chuck it and carry on. : )

    1. Thanks!
I know what you mean, but I firmly believe no project ever gets finished, ha ha. To be honest, all I have are some FOW armies, zombies, Strange Aeons and that's about it, so starting new project might not be too harsh :)
